Overview
The course offers opportunities to candidates with suitable qualifications who want to pursue further studies in electrical and electronic engineering. The course has taken into account the latest developments in this field of engineering the national requirements. The course is offered in two fields; Electrical and Information Engineering. Options in these two fields have been carefully grouped into clusters, which define areas of further specialisation.
Structure
Course Structure and Duration
The degree to be awarded shall be Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
The Master of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering shall be done by coursework, examinations and thesis.
There shall be two fields of specialisation:
Electrical Engineering; and Electronic Engineering.
The course shall be full time and shall extend for at least two academic years; one academic year for coursework and one academic year for thesis research and writing.
Each candidate shall do 9 courses of which 5 will be core course while 3 will be optional courses. In addition, Research Methodology will be compulsory.
In the first semester, each candidate shall do two core courses which are common to both fields of specialisation and three core courses in either Electronic Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
In the second semester, each candidate can select one option which consists of a cluster of three courses. The options can be in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The following shall be eligible for admission into the programme:
A holder of at least a second class upper division degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering of the University of Nairobi.
A holder of qualification in electrical engineering or electronic engineering awarded by an institution recognized by the senate of the university of Nairobi as equivalent to the above qualification of the University of Nairobi.
The common regulations for the masters degree in all faculties should be applicable.

Examination Regulations
Part 1
Each course shall be examined at the end of the semester in which the course is offered.
Each examination shall consist of one three-hour written paper in each course.
The examination shall contribute 70% of the final mark, while 30% will be coursework assessment.
The pass mark shall be 40% in each course.
A candidate who fails with a mark of less than 40% - 49% may, with the permission of Senate sit for a supplementary in the failed papers within a period of three months after the first examination.
A candidate who fails to reach a pass mark in more than two courses or in any course in a supplementary examination or fails to reach a mark of 50% in any course shall be discontinued.
Part II
Part II of the examination shall consist of the assessment of a thesis based on the research undertaken in the second year of study.
The Masters thesis shall be submitted as specified in Common Regulations for the Masters Degrees in all Faculties.
